Uncovering the Past
Research
The resources of the Ute Pass Historical Society are available to the public for historical research. This includes our library, archives, and photograph collection. You are welcome to do your own research, or one of our volunteers can help you look for answers to your history questions. Our resources are not yet available online, so you will need to visit our office during our regular office hours or schedule an appointment. We also take historical research requests by filling out the form below or by telephone at 719-686-7512.
Library
The UPHS Library includes books on local history, Colorado history, western regional history, and western railroads. These books must be used on site, but you are welcome to make photocopies. We do not charge a copy fee, but donations are greatly appreciated. Additional books are available next door at the Woodland Park Library, in the Colorado Room on the top floor. Books on area history are also for sale in our gift shop.
Archives
The UPHS archives include unpublished documents relevant to our local history, as well as a collection of local newspapers. These documents are available for your use, with the help of one of our volunteers.
Photographs
UPHS has a collection of more than 4,000 historical photographs of local communities including, Colorado Springs, Manitou Springs, Cascade, Chipita Park, Green Mountain Falls, Woodland Park, Divide, Florissant, and Cripple Creek, from the late 1800s through the 1980s. The images in our collection are available for public use unless they are copies of images owned or copyrighted by another party. You may purchase reprints for private display, commercial display, or publication. Please contact our office for a current list of our fees. We also welcome the use of our images for historical research and education.
